Happy Christmas Eve sugar plums! I’m wishing you a wondrous evening filled with sweet treats, classic Christmas films, soft blankets and a sprinkling of star dust!
‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
Christmas Eve is so special and each year it provides me with a sense of nostalgia as I reminisce about the joys I felt as a child.
My brother and I would beam from the tops of our noses down to our tippy toes as we clambered into our pyjamas. Me and my mum would bake gingerbread men and watch a Christmas film by the fire with our hot chocolates. Just before bedtime my brother and I would scurry into the kitchen to prepare Santa’s midnight treat. This usually consisted of a mince pie, an assortment of Quality Street chocolates and a wholesome glass of milk.
Then we would write our letter to Santa, scatter fairy dust to guide the reindeer and lay a trail of carrots outside. Soon after this we would be tucked up in bed. As we closed our eyes we would fall into a deep slumber filled with dreams of sweets, magical reindeer, soft white snow and visions of beautifully wrapped gifts tied with dainty ribbons and bows…
Today I’m sharing a few ideas on how you could unwind before Christmas Day arrives ♡
A Whimsical Wintry Sanctuary ♡
After revealing my Nutcracker Land of the Sweets themed tree at the start of December, I decided that I still wanted to add something to my tree and when I spotted these darling pink satin bows I couldn’t resist purchasing them!
Each bow is beautifully nestled amongst my whimsical, fairytale ornaments…
Hanging up a stocking on Christmas Eve is such an enchanting moment and when I saw this pink fluffy stocking in the River Island sale I just had to pick it up!
The white pom-pom detail is so cute and I hope, if I’m lucky enough, that it will be filled with delightful gifts on Christmas morning.
Once all my soft furnishing are assembled, I like to light a wintry candle.
‘Snowflake Cookie’ from Yankee Candle is my favourite; the scent is truly divine and reminds me of freshly baked sugar cookies.
Shimmering Snowflake Gift-Wrap ♡
Christmas Eve can also be spent doing any last-minute card writing and gift-wrapping.
As I mentioned in my last blog post, I love collecting dreamy wrapping paper.
Alongside my Nutcracker set, I have purchased this ‘Let It Snow’ caligraphy gift-wrap from Tesco.
The design is embellished with ethereal silver snowflakes and golden pinecones.
The simple, classic design and the frosted white colour perfectly match the soft pink ribbon adorning it.
Seasons Greetings ~ Sparkly Christmas Cards ♡
Writing Christmas cards is one of my favourite traditions and I think the elegant prints on this set are so stunning.
Winter Princess Gift-Wrap ♡
This Disney princess gift-wrap is all my fairytale dreams come true.
I love the way each princess is depicted in her softest and cosiest winter attire.
The wrapping paper also comes with a few gift tags so that you won’t forget who to give your presents to.
Baking Frosted Treats ~ Pastel Gingerbread Houses & Snowflake Gingerbread Men ♡
Every Christmas Eve, me and my mum bake something sweet together. This year we’re making sugar dusted mince pies. However, I also love making gingerbread men as they’re very easy to create.
Last week I made another batch of my pink fondant snowflake gingerbread men. If you would like to know how to make them, just take a peak at my recipe from last year.
I also think making a gingerbread house by yourself or with loved ones can be so much fun.
We usually purchase a pre-made house and decorate it. Nevertheless, this year I decided to make mine from scratch.
I must say that it was quite difficult and there were moments when I did cry over it but once I had made the pieces and gotten into the swing of decorating, it turned out to be quite therapeutic!
I decided to cover mine with white snowflakes, pink stars, mini gingerbread men, mini marshmallows & sugar flowers.
Marshmallow Hot Chocolates & Festive Delights ♡
Once you have finished assembling your gingerbread house, I find that the best way to relax is by making yourself a warm drink to go with your gingerbread cookies!
How sweet is this ‘Night Owl Village Scene’ mug from Sophie Allport? I purchased it last Christmas and it is the perfect mug for a marshmallow hot chocolate.
The snowy winter scene depicts graceful barn owls swooping in the night sky carrying mistletoe in their beaks. It is so whimsical and reminds me of a traditional Christmas Eve setting.
Dreamy, Fluffy Bubble Baths ♡
l love to end Christmas Eve with a bubble bath. Tonight I’m using LUSH’s ‘Butterbear’ bath bomb.
With ylang ylang oils and cocoa butter, this product leaves my skin feeling velvety soft.
Now all that’s left to do is change into my freshly washed Cath Kidston pyjamas, put on my pink cashmere bed socks and watch The Snowman until I drift off to sleep…
Merry Christmas snowflakes! I hope you have a day that sparkles with wonder and delight
Lots of love
