Darling Decor ~ Styling My Bedroom ♡

Hello my frosted fairies! The seventh chapter of the year has begun and I can’t quite believe how swiftly time is passing by. Sunflowers are in bloom, the days are as hot as a set of toasted tea cakes (my cheeks currently resemble two ruddy apples), Wimbledon is just around the corner which means summer fetes filled with an abundance of pink champagne and scones with strawberries and cream.

Whilst I type this blog post, I’m watching Tinkerbell (2008). Truthfully, I would rather be in Pixie Hollow wandering amongst the fairies. I don’t know what it is about this time of year but I always feel inspired to freshen up my bedroom. Over the next few months I’m planning on altering the decor in my room. Ideally, I will be adding a new, princess-style day bed,a shabby-chic chest of drawers, and some cute furnishings; I have my eye on this tea set and cake stand from Royal Albert, a set of cake forks, a duvet cover, a ‘blush’ towel from Laura Ashley, this set of ‘Art of Aurora’ lithograph prints and a pastel pink Roberts radio.

I thought I would begin this series by showing pictures of my room at the moment. I will be discussing how I keep it clean, tidy and of course, girly! I wouldn’t say that I adhere to a specific style but most of the items I have acquired are… pink, fluffy, dainty and floral. Whilst I can’t list where every item is from, I will try to highlight the centre pieces of my room and explain why they’re special to me.

Cath Kidston is my favourite brand when it comes to homeware but I also love to collect items from vintage shops. When curating your bedroom, I think it’s important to surround yourself with treasures that bring you joy make you feel as cosy as possible! Personally, I love to have things from my childhood placed around me as they remind me of happier times and bring a sense of nostalgia which is so soothing. Consequently, my bedroom has transformed into a floral, princess retreat; adorned with rose print bedding, soft bed throws, an array of bunny teddies, dainty rose bud wallpaper, enchanting story books, a wardrobe filled with ballerina dresses, darling trinket dishes and an assortment of beauty and skincare products that smell like the inside of a sweet shop! 🌸🍥🍰

I hope you enjoy taking a peak inside my boudoir… ♡

Fresh Blooms 🌸

“I must have flowers, always and always” ~ Claude Monet ♡

IMG_8565

I am definitely one of those people who needs to be surrounded by nature as much as possible. A bouquet of fresh flowers will instantly open up your surroundings. I find that every time I enter my bedroom, I’m immediately drawn to the scent and colour of my flowers. I adore this bunch of peonies which I purchased for only £5.00!

P.S make sure to add fresh water to your vase every other day and a sprinkling of sugar to keep them lasting as long as possible 🌷

Soothing Spaces ~ Cosy Cushions and Teddies 💗🐰

“Here is the world of imagination, hopes and dreams. In this timeless land of enchantment, the age of chivalry, magic and make believe are re-born – and fairy tales come true. Fantasyland is dedicated to the young and young-at-heart – to those who believe that when you wish upon a star, your dreams do come true.”  ~ Walt Disney ♡

IMG_8736

I feel soothed and relaxed when I’m surrounded by fluffy teddies. I have tried to make my room my own Fantasyland by selecting pillows and soft toys that are special to me. These little details never fail to make me feel calm and centred after a tiring or stressful day.

IMG_8739

I recently picked up this pink appliqué roses and bow cushion from Julien Macdonald’s homeware collection. I think the satin bow detail makes the cushion that extra bit classy and girly. My Marie soft toy is my favourite and she matches my bedrooms Parisian princess theme perfectly. Cath Kidston is my “go-to” brand for bedding and I love my ‘Provence Rose’ duvet set, it’s so pretty!

IMG_8684

Pretty bedspreads, pillows and teddies are an essential in my opinion. I usually reach for florals as I think they open up the room and make it look classic and timeless. My bedspread follows a shabby-chic style and I purchased it at TK Maxx a few years ago. I have two cushions from Cath Kidston, one in the ‘Antique Rose’ print and the other is in the ‘Provence Rose’ print which matches my duvet cover beautifully! My pink macaron cushion is from New Look. When I saw that it was in the sale I couldn’t resist! It adds an extra piece of Parisian charm to my room. The snoozing Winnie-the-Pooh pillow is from Primark – how cute is it? I’m pretty sure he’s dreaming about pots of honey…🐻💛🍯

IMG_8720

I’m not ashamed to say that I have an extensive collection of teddies but a few of my favourites are… Flopsy, my pink Jellycat teddy, Mopsy, a bunny ragdoll which I made, and my two Bambi teddies – Thumper and Miss Bunny (as you can probably tell, I’m partial to cute bunny rabbits) My rose print curtains are from the brand Catherine Lansfield, they look so shabby-chic/vintage looking.

Bedside Table Treasures 🎀

“One night Angelina even danced in her dreams, and when she woke up in the morning, she knew that she was going to be a real ballerina some day…” ~ Katherine Holabird, Angelina Ballerina ♡

I prefer to keep my bedside table clean, simple and as minimal as possible. At the moment I have my jewelled bird cage light,a Marie trinket dish filled with my everyday jewellery pieces, a collection of Angelina Ballerina stories that I like to read at night for inspiration for the children’s book I’m writing and my phone which is protected by my rose quartz Ted Baker case.

What’s On My Bookshelf ~ Darling Ornaments and Pretty Paperbacks 💖📖

“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.” ~ C.S. Lewis ♡

Inside the shelving unit below, I have stored away all of my books and over top I have placed my pretty books for display.

Top-bottom left ~ Oliver Bonas Pink Velvet Vanity Case, Cath Kidston Birchbox and Claudia Schiffer Makeup Box (I kept mine because the light pink packaging is too pretty to throw away.)

Centre ~ Cath Kidston x Peter Pan notebook, ‘All In Good Taste’ by Kate Spade, Classic Mary Berry, Deliciously Ella, ‘Vanity Fair’ by William Makepeace Thackeray, My Audrey Hepburn DVD collection, The White Company ‘Winter’ Candle.

Top-bottom right ~ Mrs. Potts and Chip tea-set‘What Would Audrey Do?’ by Pamela Keogh, ‘Audrey Hepburn, Elegant Spirit’ by Sean Hepburn Ferrer, ‘Audrey Hepburn: The Paramount Years’ by Tony Nourmand, ‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon’ by Terence Pepper, ‘Audrey: the 50s’ by David Wills, ‘The Audrey Hepburn Treasures’ by Ellen Erwin, ‘Bob Willoughby: Audrey Hepburn, Photographs 1953-1966’ by Bob Willoughby.

Candles always make my room feel that extra bit cosy. My favourite brand would have to be Yankee Candle, at the moment I’m burning the scent ‘Cherry Blossom’ which reminds me of spring. I also adore my fawn ornament which I received last Christmas and I couldn’t bring myself to put away.

Styling My Chest of Drawers 💝

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” ~ Audrey Hepburn ♡

IMG_8765

On top of my chest of drawers, I like to keep my perfumes and some of my favourite beauty products on display. To make this part of my room feel even more special, I have a few of my favourite Audrey Hepburn pictures and an adorable set of Cath Kidston style bunting which my best friend kindly gave to me over 4 years ago.

The Vanity Table Fit For A Princess 🌸👸🏼

“I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren’t pretty, or smart, or young. They’re still princesses.”  ~ Frances Hodgson Burnett, A Little Princess ♡

IMG_8707

Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed about having my own dressing table. 2-3 years ago, my dad kindly presented me with this one and I was so overjoyed. I’ve managed to keep it in pristine condition and every time I sit down to do my makeup or style my hair I feel like a princess.

A Wardrobe of Dreams ~ Pearl Berets, Ballerina Dresses and Pastel Pink Knits 🎀

“Playing dress up begins at age five and never truly ends” ~ Kate Spade ♡

IMG_8703

Creating a wardrobe that is coordinated and filled only with items that bring me joy is something that has taken years to put assemble. I’m finally in a place where I can truthfully say that I’m content with my style and that I only purchase or keep items which contribute to this particular look.

IMG_8701

My wardrobe predominantly consists of shades of pink, whites, florals, lace and tulle. On the left I store my winter warmers (ear muffs, berets, gloves) below this section I have some of my favourite pastel knits, followed by my mini handbag collection and at the bottom, my favourite ballet pumps.

I really hope you enjoyed reading this blog post my angel cakes! I have decided to take a short break from baking but I promise I will be back soon with a new recipe. In the meantime, please let me know what you’d like to see over the next few weeks. Don’t forget to mention your favourite part of your bedroom and something that’s on your home decor wish list ☁️🌸🏡

I wish you a week filled with sugary lemon drizzle slices, fluttering butterflies and endless cups of chamomile tea! 🌼🍋🍰

      1. I’ll avoid just picking one, and say the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella.🙈🌸 It’s positively the most amusing series, I have ever read! What is your favourite, Sophie? And I will totally add some bunting especially after seeing yours!♡ xx

      2. Omg I adore that series! I’m about to start reading ‘Shopaholic Ties The Knot’ 👰🏼🌸 I find Rebecca Bloomwood to be one of the most relatable characters ☁️💗👛 and that is a tough decision to make because there are so many books I love but it would have to be ‘Lolita’ by Vladimir Nabokov – I’ve read it twice and I just love the way it’s written!! 📖💘 xxx

    2. I have heard heaps about ‘Lolita’ on how precarious her experiences were, and how wondrous Vladimir Nabokov’s writing skills are!♡ I will definitely hunt it down on my next book shopping spree! xx

  3. Your room is absolutely stunning; it is my dream room.☁💕 I am, unfortunately, a pack rat, and so I have way to many things that I would never buy now. 🙈How would one downsize? Did you pack things away in boxes, simply get rid of them, or have you always had lovely things? 🎀 I can’t choose a favorite part of your room. Thank you for sharing this with us!🌸

    1. Thank you darling! You are always so kind and leave the sweetest comments ☁️🎀🙊🍥 I would suggest doing a massive de-clutter! Do it in stages so you don’t feel completely overwhelmed and focus on a specific area of your room at a time. You need to be ruthless and ask yourself – 1. “Do I need this? Is it of use to me anymore?” 2. “I am holding onto it for sentimental reasons? And is it worth keeping?” 3. “Does it fit the overall theme or style that I want my room to convey?” 4. “Would it be of better use with a different owner?” Then, once you have decided what you want to do I’d either sell it, give it to charity or to a friend! 🌸 you need to be pretty ruthless with this! Once you have gotten rid of all the things you’re not in love with anymore you might still find that you have a lot of things you love but you have no idea where to store them. Pretty storage units and boxes always come in handy! I use these floral ones from IKEA~ https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/small-storage-organisers/storage-boxes-baskets/dr%C3%B6na-box-floral-patterned-art-20217956/ 🌷

You also might want to try storing things underneath your bed. My best advice is just go with what you truly love/what brings you joy!! ✨ I hope this helps 💕🙈

  4. Sophie, your room is simply divine – I am so jealous! I love your bedding and the wallpaper is the prettiest one I’ve every seen. I absolutely adore your collections of cushions and teddies – one is never too old to be comforted by the presence of soft, dreamy teddies and pretty floral cushion. May I ask where the gorgeous prints on your wall and your wardrobe are from? Thank you! Love you so much, Tilly xxx

    1. Hello Tilly! Why thank you angel ~ it has taken me a number of years to style it in the way I have always dreamed it would be but I still have a few more changes I want to make before it’s perfect 🎀Do you mean the Audrey Hepburn prints? If so, I purchased all of them at the National Portrait Gallery about 2-3 years ago when I went to the ‘Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon’ exhibit 🌸however, you might be able to find some on Ebay! xox
