Hello my frosted fairies! It finally feels like spring has sprung and summer is surely on its way. On Bank Holiday Monday, I had the pleasure of going to the park with my mum to gaze at the cherry blossom. They are now in full bloom and it was mesmerising to see them flutter and whirl in the air as the wind slowly caressed the branches of each tree. It was also fitting that in this whimsical moment, I was wearing my new, Helen dress from the Gal Meets Glam Collection. I felt like a summer fairy whilst wearing it; the sun was beaming and I felt truly happy.
“Gal Meets Glam Collection is a modern line of dresses that pushes past trendy to celebrate classic sophistication, feminine elegance and romantic details. Wearing a dress from our line isn’t just about the fabric or silhouette, it’s about the feeling you get when you wear one.”
I thought I would dedicate this blog post to Julia’s wonderful range of dreamy, princess dresses. I had been anticipating the release of this collection for quite some time, (I even set the date in my calendar and an alarm on my phone…) Aside from Audrey, Jackie Kennedy and Kate Middleton, Julia has been my style icon for many years. Whenever I’m stuck on what to wear or deciding whether to buy a new piece for my wardrobe, I ask myself ~ “What Would Julia Do?” Her Instagram and blog showcase effortlessly classy looks that are certain to inspire any girl with an interest in fashion. Consequently, it’s no surprise that her first collection provides us with an array of charming and elegant dresses which would be perfect to wear throughout spring and summer.
“I have always been a lover of dresses” ~ Julia Engel ♡
Dresses are a key piece in my wardrobe and I was so overjoyed to discover that the range revolves around this particular item of clothing. I wear dresses almost everyday and if I don’t, I’ll most definitely be wearing a skirt. When the collections lookbook was released, I was well and truly spoilt for choice. From the pastel colours, floral prints to the bow detailing and ruffles, Julia’s dresses embody everything I adore and gravitate towards. Nevertheless, after a lot of deliberating, I finally decided on the Helen and Ellie dresses in Blush and Rose.
The Helen dress immediately stood out to me as its subtle details reminded me of an iconic bow shoulder dress, worn by Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina. It had the air of something from the 1950s and I couldn’t resist. Julia’s design provides an updated look as the blush pink colour adds a touch of modern femininity, the ditsy floral embroidery and the Grosgrain ribbon ties keep it playful yet the elegant cut of the neckline and waist cause the piece to remain sophisticated.
I found the dress so light and heavenly to wander around in. It also complimented the surrounding cherry blossoms very well (which is always a bonus in my books.) Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to get this dress in my size as the smallest size sold out very quickly! For now, I’ve had to wear a cardigan over the top. Nevertheless, I am thinking about getting it tailored, so I hope this will help me get the perfect fit!
The Ellie dress was the second item I decided to purchase. I definitely think this dress is suitable for any elegant, day-time look. The crepe, fit and flare style reminded me of something Kate Middleton would wear. Although the design is quite simple, I adore the puffy sleeves and bow detailing. I think it will look so dainty on a warm, summer’s day.
I am thoroughly impressed and delighted with everything I picked up from the first instalment of the Gal Meets Glam Collection. Julia is set to release even more dresses later this month and I can’t wait. If you find that the dress you like is sold out, make sure to stay tuned for more dresses each month, for the rest of the year!
